Fighting Freckles
Monday, August 10, 2009 9:43Some find freckles on themselves and other charming. To others, they are considered little more than blemishes, if not an outright flaw. If you have been struggling with your own freckles, you have doubtless seen a great deal of marketing for various bleaching creams, lotions, and other skin treatments. These creams purport to fade freckles, or even to completely remove them. If you’ve tried them, you’re well aware that they are not effective.
While some of these products may in truth lighten skin, they invariably lighten both the freckles and the surrounding skin. This doesn’t equalize the difference between the two tones, it simply results in paler skin overall, with freckles which are just as visible as they were before use of the treatment.
A more effective treatment is cryosurgery, which involves the application of liquid nitrogen to the skin. This treatment is rarely used, however, because it is both inaccurate for the typical small size of freckles and can cause significant pain.
The most viable option, if you are serious about getting rid of your freckles, is laser treatment. By using very specific wavelengths of light which are most effective at combating dark pigmentation, the doctor can use very low levels of energy. This results in a very precise method that causes minimal discomfort.
